Study reveals Fort Myers as one of the most affordable cities to live in Florida

In a surprising turn of events, Fort Myers, a city in Southwest Florida, has been ranked as certainly one of the most cost effective places to live within the state. In keeping with a study conducted by rental website FloridaRentals, Fort Myers found itself at the underside of the list of 29 major cities in Florida. The study took various cost-of-living aspects under consideration, including expenses like groceries, gym memberships, and web bills, which were weighed against the common annual income. Fort Myers scored an index rating of 60.19 out of 100, putting it in second place for affordability.

The study further explained that the rankings were based on quite a lot of aspects equivalent to accommodation costs, leisure activities, groceries, transportation, and utility bills. These aspects were in comparison with the common personal income in each city, leading to an index that determined the most cost effective places to live in Florida. Fort Myers’s lower scores were attributed to its utility bills and clothing costs.

Interestingly, the most cost effective city in Florida was revealed to be Hollywood, with an index rating of 61.29 out of 100. Hollywood stood out resulting from its favorable rankings in categories like clothing and transport, despite having a comparatively high annual personal income per capita of $73,522.

Fort Myers’s neighbor, Cape Coral, also made the list, securing the eleventh spot with an index rating of 55.33 out of 100.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Tampa claimed the title of the most costly city in Florida with an index rating of 36.07 out of 100. The town’s high costs were mainly driven by expenses within the leisure and transportation categories. As an example, the common cost of a one-bedroom apartment in Tampa’s city center is $2,091, and renting a tennis court for an hour through the weekend can cost roughly $20.99.

Overall, the study make clear the various cost of living in Florida, with each city exhibiting unique characteristics that contribute to its affordability or lack thereof.
