Taylor Swift steals the spotlight at NFL game, showing her support for Travis Kelce and the Chiefs

Taylor Swift could also be getting attention for showing up at an NFL game Sunday in support of a “friend,” but it surely was what she did last week that motivated her fan base to get politically involved.

Greater than 1,000 young Floridians filled out voter registration forms on National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 19, and a voter registration nonprofit credited Swift for hitting that record.

Overall, the pop singer-songwriter’s post is credited with encouraging 35,000 people nationwide to enroll as voters.

An hour after Swift posted on an Instagram story to encourage her fans to register to vote, Vote.org said it saw a 1,226% jump in participation on the positioning, averaging 13,000 users every half-hour, in response to a press release from the web site that registers voters and encourages turnout.

“I have been so lucky to see so a lot of you guys at my US shows recently. I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I understand how powerful they’re. Make certain you are able to use them in our elections this 12 months!” Swift wrote on her account’s Instagram story. Swift has 272 million followers on the social media platform.

For the past few years, Swift has encouraged fans and the general public basically to register to vote by posting on social media about local elections in Tennessee, where she lives, and speaking out against anti-LGBTQ+ laws.

It is not the primary time the record-setting performer has engaged in voter registration activism. In 2018, she posted a link to Vote.org for her fans and it ended up bringing 65,000 people from ages 18 to 29 to register to vote inside 24 hours of the post.
