“This whole movement to do that motion, look, I believe a variety of that’s performative, I believe a variety of that’s the standard theatrics that we’re used to seeing, I’m unsure how much thought goes into that,” DeSantis said in a video released by his campaign because the House prepared to vote on Gaetz’s motion to vacate the chair, which is geared toward removing McCarthy.

DeSantis’ comments echo those of other Republicans who’ve accused Gaetz, a Florida congressman, of simply in search of publicity with out a clear path for replacing McCarthy.

Gaetz filed his motion to vacate on Monday after McCarthy pushed through a short-term stopgap government funding measure over the weekend.
