Was Trump responsible for divulging nuclear secrets about a U.S. submarine to Anthony Pratt?

Two media outlets reported Friday that former President Donald Trump is being investigated over allegations he revealed two secrets about U.S. submarines during a discussion at Mar-a-Lago.

In accordance with ABC News and the Latest York Times, special counsel Jack Smith is looking into allegations Trump told a member of his Palm Beach club, Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt, the variety of nuclear warheads the submarines typically carry in addition to how close they will get to Russian submarines without being detected.

The revelations are a part of the investigation into Trump’s possession and handling of U.S. classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, once dubbed the Southern White House. Trump is scheduled to go on trial within the case on May 20 of next 12 months.

On Friday, Trump denied the reports, calling it a “ridiculous story.” He acknowledged talking about submarines inside the context “that I’ll often state that we make the very best” military equipment “anywhere on the planet — A fairly well-known fact.” He blamed the “fake stories” on prosecutors he said try to interfere within the 2024 election.

How did Trump allegedly spill the submarine nuclear secrets to the Mar-a-Lago member?

In accordance with ABC and the Times, sources with knowledge of the episode said Pratt has told Smith’s team that Trump disclosed the sensitive information after Pratt said Australia can purchase its submarines from the US.

At that time, ABC reported, an “excited” Trump leaned toward Pratt in “discreet” fashion to inform him the variety of warheads the American submarines normally have onboard and the way close they will get to Russia’s subs.

The story said Pratt then told investigators he shared that information with at the least 45 individuals. Those included six journalists, 11 of Pratt’s employees, and 10 Australian government officials, the report said.

The report also cites information that a former Mar-a-Lago worker told the special counsel’s investigative team that he overheard Pratt telling others what Trump had just revealed soon after the conversation between the previous president and the Australian.

Is that this news a part of the Trump classified documents indictment?

No, this particular episode was not mentioned within the 37-count indictment.

Nonetheless, the Times report said Pratt is amongst as many as 80 potential witnesses that might be called to testify within the classified documents case.

The indictment does allege two instances wherein Trump is accused of showing sensitive information to people.

The primary, the indictment indicated, was detailed in a July 2021 audio recording where Trump is heard talking as he is outwardly displaying a “secret” and “highly confidential” document related to Iran. The second involved a “PAC Representative” who was shown a classified map in August or September of 2021.
