Florida Capitol Set to Install $61 Million Worth of Bulletproof Windows

The Florida Senate office constructing is showcasing a particular appearance with the removal of louvre shutters and the installation of tempered energy-efficient windows.

In 2019, the Legislature allocated $61 million to exchange all 1,656 windows and eliminate the shutters from the buildings on the Capitol Complex.

While the windows of the Historic Capitol are equipped with striped awnings to supply shade, louvre slats were installed on the Capitol, House, and Senate office buildings.

Externally, these slats obstruct the view of the windows, giving the 22-story Capitol constructing a grid-like appearance.

The development work on the Senate constructing appears to be complete, and now five stories of reflective windows offer a mirrored reflection of the Old Capitol, courtyard, and House Office Constructing.

The Florida Capitol Building is getting upgraded, reflective windows. Some have already been installed, but the project will take much longer to complete on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023.

Roughly six stories on the House side of the Capitol constructing have undergone substitute.

The Capitol Complex was erected in 1977 at a value of $43 million, which is a couple of third lower than the expense involved in replacing all of the windows with dark, reflective, tempered, bullet-proof glass.

Dan Barrows, the spokesperson for the Department of Management Services, the state’s real estate manager, stated that the project funding was included in a package that encompassed enhanced security measures, in addition to improvements to the complex’s heating, cooling, and ventilation system.

“A modernized window system provides energy efficiency and security advantages,” emphasized DMS spokesperson Dan Barrows.

Representative Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, identified the irony that in the identical yr the Legislature approved a law allowing permitless carry of firearms in public, it installed bulletproof windows in its office buildings.

“Everyone within the GOP seems so obsessed with loosening gun regulations and disregarding our concerns for public safety, while they strengthen their very own security,” Eskamani remarked.

The window replacements are being carried out in stages across the three-building complex, with project completion expected by 2027.
