Graffiti Incident on Fort Myers Beach Clock in Times Square Promptly Cleaned Up

The famous green clock in Times Square on Fort Myers Beach is back to looking its usual self, following a graffiti incident that prompted a call to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 10, a town worker arrived at Times Square to perform maintenance work when he noticed two small graffiti marks on the bricks on the clock’s base: a pentagram with the number 6 under each point, and a smaller pentagram with “USA” written above it.

The worker called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, whose deputies responded to the scene and filed a report.

The graffiti had been removed as of Friday afternoon.

The clock, a longtime landmark on the Fort Myers Beach waterfront, was ripped off its base by Hurricane Ian’s record-breaking storm surge. The clock’s destruction prompted a whole bunch of individuals to pay tribute to it on social media.

The Verdin Company, a Cincinnati-based bell, clock, and tower manufacturer, built each the unique clock and its substitute. The brand new clock was unveiled on Sept. 28, the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Ian.
