“Tampa Residents Advocate for Palestine, Denounce Gaza Bombing through March”

TAMPA — In a display of support for Palestinians across the Tampa Bay region, several hundred Palestinians and their supporters gathered Friday night to denounce the Israeli government’s bombing of Gaza and call for an end to the Hamas-Israel conflict.

Palestinian flags, posters, and Arabic prayers filled the world near City Hall in downtown Tampa as demonstrators peacefully rallied before marching around a small block of town. The Tampa Police Department escorted the roughly 500 demonstrators for security through the event. The event had been promoted as a part of an “International Day of Motion for Gaza.”

While a handful of onlookers voiced support for Israel in passing, the event mostly drew supporters of Gaza residents and Palestinians. Children, including babies, were draped within the red, black, and green colours of the flag of Palestine, and teenagers and young Palestinian men wore keffiyehs, a conventional scarf worn by members of the Arabic community, as a display of culture and heritage.
