New Iowa Poll Shows Trump in the Lead, While Haley and DeSantis are Tied Ahead of 2024 Caucuses

Support for Nikki Haley has surged in Iowa, with the previous United Nations ambassador now tied with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for second place within the state’s crucial caucus. Nevertheless, former President Donald Trump stays the dominant candidate, maintaining a 27-percentage point lead despite his legal troubles. In response to a brand new Iowa Poll, 43% of likely Republican caucusgoers select Trump as their first alternative for president, up from 42% in August. DeSantis and Haley at the moment are tied at 16%, with DeSantis experiencing a 3-percentage point drop and Haley seeing a 10-point jump. Recent battles over the Israel-Hamas war have led to increased tension between Haley and DeSantis, with each candidates announcing plans to expand their campaigns in Iowa. Independents and suburbanites have been key to Haley’s rise within the polls, as she has doubled her support amongst independents and leads each Trump and DeSantis amongst suburban poll respondents. Meanwhile, Trump’s supporters show greater enthusiasm and loyalty, with 47% of them extremely captivated with their alternative in comparison with 25% for DeSantis and 19% for Haley. Although Trump is in a robust position, the Iowa Poll suggests that there remains to be room for alternatives, with only 4% of respondents having narrowed all the way down to one candidate and 67% saying they’re considering caucusing for Trump even when he just isn’t their first alternative. Ultimately, the race in Iowa stays competitive, but Trump maintains a major advantage.
