Guide to voting for the Top 12 contestants, featuring Nya from Fort Myers and NYC

Nya sang her way into the Top 14 singers on “American Idol.” But will she make it into the Top 12?

That is as much as you and the remaining of America to choose.

Nya and the opposite Top 14 singers are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21. TV viewers vote on their favorites, and two singers are going home.

The right way to vote for the Top 12 on ‘American Idol’

“American Idol” airs at 8 p.m. Sundays and Mondays on ABC. It also streams on Hulu.

To vote for the Top 12, visit AmericanIdol.com/vote or the American Idol app.

You can too text the contestant’s number to 21523. Nya’s number is currently 6, but check the web site to be certain that it hasn’t modified.

You’ll be able to vote as much as 10 times for every contestant per method. Which means you may vote 10 times via text, 10 times on the web site and 10 times on the app ― for a complete of 30 votes.

Voting can either begin in the beginning of the show or at the top of every episode. Check the American Idol app and website to search out out when voting starts and ends each week.

Who’s Nya on ‘American Idol’?

Nya ― the stage name for singer-actor-dancer Nyachomba Muchai-Kinya ― grew up in Fort Myers, Florida but now lives in Manhattan in Latest York City.

She attended Fort Myers’ Orangewood Elementary and Cypress Lake High’s Center for the Arts. She moved to Latest York City before her twenty first birthday to pursue a profession onstage, she told the Latest York Post.

Now she performs on Broadway and Off-Broadway, including recent shows “Titanique” and “Carolina, or Change.”

Nya sang in Cypress Lake High’s award-winning vocal group TAG (The A Cappella Group). She was even nominated for the national CARAs (Contemporary A cappella Recording Awards) for her solo on a 2011 TAG album.

“She was amazing,” said Gary Stroh, her former vocal teacher at Cypress Lake High. “She had that ‘it’ quality.”

It’s unclear if Nya, 28, was born in Florida or Kenya. Previous “Idol” episodes have suggested she was born in Kenya. But on the April 14 show, Nya said this: “My family got here here from Kenya. My mom and pop weren’t together by the point I used to be born.”

Nya hasn’t been made available for interviews through an “American Idol” publicist. But she did comment on last week’s win on Instagram.

“I made it to the #Top14,” she wrote, “so thankful & blessed. … America I LOVE U and can make you proud.”
