Alligator Attacks Man Walking Dog in Naples, Florida

In Southwest Florida, it is not unusual to see a person walking his dog at night. Nonetheless, things took a terrifying turn for 67-year-old Rick Fingeret on April 19 when an almost 11-foot alligator suddenly attacked him, biting his thigh.

The intensity of the situation is evident once you take heed to the 911 call made by a motorist who rushed to Fingeret’s aid. Amidst the chaos, you possibly can hear Fingeret’s dog barking, the dispatcher asking for his age, and the motorist trying to verify it with the injured man, who responds faintly with, “67.”

The attack happened on Quarry Drive, near Immokalee Road, in Naples. Fingeret, in a desperate move, signaled the passing motorist to run over the alligator. After being struck by the vehicle, the gator released Fingeret and fled into the water. First responders provided immediate medical assistance and airlifted Fingeret to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers.
