Florida secures 9th spot in U.S. News’ list of top states

Florida is the ninth best state within the nation and one of the best overall within the Southeast, in response to a recent rating by U.S. News and World Report measuring how well each state serves its residents.

The brand new rating of the “best states” evaluates all 50 based on aspects corresponding to their economy, education systems, crime rates, health care, and natural environments.

Florida ranked No. 9 overall and was the one state within the Southeast to crack the Top 10. It did so largely on the strength of its economy and education systems, each of which were rated the highest within the nation by the magazine.

The Sunshine State’s rank was one higher than last 12 months, when it earned the No. 10 spot. U.S. News says its methodologies have been adjusted and the 2 years shouldn’t be directly compared.

This 12 months’s list was the magazine’s sixth 12 months rating the states by overall quality. In a news release, it said that it uses “greater than 70 metrics and tens of hundreds of information points to measure how well U.S. states are performing for his or her residents.”

“Along with health care and education, the metrics bear in mind a state’s economic growth; its roads, bridges, web access, and other infrastructure; its public safety record; the fiscal stability of state government; and the chance it affords its residents,” the magazine said.

U.S. News called Utah one of the best state overall within the nation, followed by Latest Hampshire and Nebraska. Utah won the highest spot last 12 months as well. You could find the general rankings here.
